Millions of Dollars Invested in South Lake Tahoe

paradise-real-estate-beach-home-for-saleSouth Lake Tahoe is experiencing a financial boom, the likes of which have never been seen in the region. Both private and public entities are now investing in South Lake Tahoe which is a great sign of things to come.

Invested in South Lake Tahoe

Over the past year I’ve been highlighting the different projects both planned and already underway in South Lake Tahoe as well as those completed. Over $300 million is being spent just in the city limits, with much more being used around the lake  on infrastructure including road and water clarity projects, remodeled casinos, a planned ferry and much more!

Edgewood Tahoe, the renown golf course near the state line, is adding a lakefront lodge, reconfigured environmentally friendly greens, vacation ownership, spa and fitness center.

The Chateau Project is getting closer to being completed.  It’s prime location in the heart of the local casino and entertainment district will be an added attraction once the hotel and remaining retail outlets are completed.

One final approval is expected by the Lahontan Water Board during their next board meeting. What this means for the South Shore is “epic!”  This project will bring year-round outdoor activities besides their already famous skiing and snowboarding. Ground is expected to break in Summer 2015 on new zip lining experiences, canopy tours with ropes, cycle tours (bikes suspended by wires), interpretive centers and additional biking and hiking trails.

The City of South Lake Tahoe just sold an empty lot on the corner of Ski Run and Highway 50, paving the way for a new business to come to town.  New local retailers also include Bev Mo, Auto Zone, Cold Water Brewery and a new owner for the former Factory Stores area at the Y.  Several old buildings resting in sensitive stream zones will be torn down this summer (Lake Tahoe Inn and two buildings at the Y).  The Alta Mira Building was torn down to improve the view of the lake from Highway 50.

The City also owns 12 acres of land adjacent to their City Hall offices at the airport. They’d like to bring in an event center/concert hall since there currently aren’t any facilities in town (besides the casinos) that can house a large event.

There is now a new area plan for the “Y” area of South Lake Tahoe which will improve the main entrance to our community. They are planning new trails and interconnected paths to increase walking and biking.

A dilapidated mobile home park was removed and in its place a high end condominium complex is currently being built, just a couple of blocks from the beach!

Sixty million was spent revitalizing and remodeling the old Horizon Casino and it is now a Hard Rock Casino & Hotel. They will be adding a 2,000 seat showroom next year but, in the meantime, have a fun small venue called Vinyl and they are planning outdoor concerts this summer.

Tahoe Transportation District’s Loop Road project will move Highway 50 as it passes through the Stateline to a loop road around the casinos. This will bring out a more walkable and bikeable business and entertainment area. It is not only intended to revitalize the South Shore of Lake Tahoe but will also integrate with numerous existing and planned projects.

A few miles have already been completed of the Nevada Stateline to Stateline Bikeway.  The trail from Kahle Road in South Lake Tahoe to Round Hill Pines Resort is completed and it will someday go all the way up to the North Shore.

Wouldn’t it be great to have a ferry to take across the lake?  Plans are being made for the Lake Tahoe Passenger Ferry and we hope to hear more about it soon.

Kahle Project:  The old, dilapidated mobile home park at the end of Kahle Drive on the lake will soon be luxury condos and development.

Burke Creek:  A new community project near Lake Village, bringing in several high end homes as well as a couple moderately priced ones.

Cave Rock Estates:  This spring the project near Cave Rock will bring in several new town homes just across the street from the lake and boat ramp.

Lakeview Commons:  What a great project this is in the historic Al Tahoe area of South Lake Tahoe!  Concerts and other community events are held here as well as stand up paddle board races.  The tiered rock side is perfect for watching the lake or the concerts.

Harrison Avenue:  Also in the Al Tahoe neighborhood, a multi-million dollar project was just completed along Harrison Avenue that leads from Lakeview Commons to Los Angeles Street. Nice looking streetscape, organized parking in two lots and a soon to be completed “Champion’s Plaza” that will celebrate our local medal winning Olympians.

To wrap up an overview of all the investments, we’ll look at the US 50 Water Quality and Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvement Project that is improving trails from Ski Run Blvd. to Trout Creek. Most is already completed but there is one stretch from Lakeview Commons to Ski Run Blvd that will begin construction this summer. Then, people can walk along a path from Stateline to Camp Richardson.

These are very exciting times to be in Lake Tahoe!
