Bijou homes for sale

South Lake's Most Popular Neighborhood

Home sales in Bijou tend to be higher compared to other areas on the South Shore, even though Bijou is one of South Lake's oldest neighborhoods. Why you ask? This particular area provides a great opportunity for those seeking to be near the amenities found with "in-town living". As well as homes that are level and easy to get in and out of during those heavy Tahoe winters.

Why Bijou?

Bijou is located near it's very own 9-hole golf course, the Heavenly Ski Resort, Casinos AND the lake which makes it the perfect area for primary residences. The houses throughout this area represent a wide range of styles, ages and sizes, which also add to it's popularity. The average home usually consists of three bedrooms, two baths and approximately 1,300 square feet of living space. Many of the homes throughout Bijou also feature beautiful mountain and/or meadow views. What else could you ask for in a Tahoe neighborhood?!

History

Bijou's neighborhood formation came in 1929 when William Bliss (son of D.L. Bliss of Tahoe's lumber industry) developed Bijou Pines.  50' x 100' lots were available for $250 which you could buy for $25 a year with interest deferred payments.  As advertised in their brochure, "Bring your children to your own cabin site for the summer of Great Tahoe oudoors. Where they learn every flowers, trees, rocks, mountain peaks, streams and every clod has a story to tell of a great universe. They will learn "big muscle activities", the foundation for adult life' where they learn to be dependent for their amusements on themselves. Where the parent does not hear the youngster's continual plea "What can I do next?"  There is always something to do that will give children an experience which will bring them rewards in health, happiness and character building."

Why live here?
