South Lake Tahoe Vacation Home Rental (VHR) Guidelines

Guidelines for the City of South Lake Tahoe Vacation Home Rentals (VHR’s)

*** The City of South Lake Tahoe encourages homeowners to communicate with your surrounding neighbors and let them know that you are planning on applying for a Vacation Home Rental (VHR) Permit. Ask and address any questions or concerns with them before the VHR notification letter is mailed out and received. This will greatly enhance your chances of not getting denied a permit due to the written objections of your neighbors. ***

 

Maximum Occupancy Allowed:

  • Studio:  2 people
  • 1 Bedroom:  4 people
  • 2 + Bedrooms:  2 people per bedroom + 4 more peoplesouth lake tahoe vacation rental ordinance

Noise:

  • NO noise is permitted after 10pm

Hot Tubs/Spas

  • Use of spas and hot tubs with the use of jets, blowers, and other mechanical elements that produce noise are prohibited between the hours of 10pm and 7am

Parking:

  • Must park legally in a driveway/parking space that belongs to the Vacation Home Rental (VHR)
  • Number of parking spaces is limited to the actual number of designated parking spaces that belong to each VHR

Signage REQUIRED:

  • Exterior:
    • 12″ x 12″ size
    • MAX # of Occupants allowed in VHR
    • MAX # of Vehicles allowed on property
    • Phone Number of VHR Hotline: (530) 542-6100
    • Police Department’s Email Address: cburby@cityofslt.us
  • Interior:
    • Name and Telephone # of the local contact person for actual VHR Residence
    • MAX # of Occupants allowed in VHR
    • MAX # of Vehicles allowed on property
    • Parking Rules for Snow Removal
    • Trash Pick up Information
    • Notification of issuance of citations for creating disturbances
    • Notification of exceeding parking limitations

VHR Permit:

  • A copy of the VHR Permit and a copy of the Terms of Conditions MUST be posted in a conspicuous place within the VHR
  • The fines for operating a VHR without a permit is $5,000 per

Marketing:

  • All marketing of the Vacation Home Rental must publish the VHR Permit # and the MAX # of Occupants allowed

Health & Safety:

  • VHR Owner acknowledges compliance with the Federal and State “Fire and Carbon Monoxide Safety Guidelines”

Local Response:

  • Local Contact person MUST be within a 30 mile radius of the Vacation Home Rental

Good Neighbor Policy:

  • “Leave NO Impact” – clean up ALL trash (inside and out) and leave the property in the same condition as when you arrived
